Introducing the CFUW Member’s Drive Guide

The CFUW National Office is pleased to share a new PDF guide designed to help CFUW members easily navigate the Member’s Drive.

This guide includes:

  • An overview of what’s in the Member’s Drive
  • Direct links to the full drive and key folders
  • Instructions on how to request access
  • A breakdown of the main folders and subfolders
  • Tips on how to download documents and bookmark the drive

To make navigation even easier, the Table of Contents on page 2 is clickable, allowing you to jump directly to the section you need without reading the entire document.

We recommend downloading the guide and keeping it handy for quick reference. You’ll find it on the homepage of the Member’s Drive alongside a Word document that further breaks down each folder, similar to a site map. It will also be available in the Club Resources folder.

If you notice anything missing or unclear, please contact Mabinty Toure, the Admin Assistant at adminassistant@cfuw-fcfdu.ca

GBV and the crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and 2SLGBTQQIA+ remain serious issues in Canada. Despite increased awareness and efforts to address these issues, the voices and experiences of two spirit individuals have largely been excluded.

This new Backgrounder, guest-authored by 2 Spirits in Motion Society (2SiMS), centers Two Spirit Indigenous Peoples and their experiences of gender-based violence (GBV). It explores both the historical and ongoing violence Two Spirit people face, along with the intersectional barriers that impact their access to safety, support, and healing.

Congratulations Barb Dumoulin: Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers Recipient

On April 30th Barbara and 60 other volunteers received the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers. Governor General Mary Simon presented the awards. The ceremony was held in Ottawa at Rideau Hall.

Over the past 15 years, Barbara DuMoulin has shared her knowledge of the island’s history with visitors and residents through her involvement in the Salt Spring Island Historical Society. She also promotes the representation of women as a member of the Canadian Federation of University Women Salt Spring Island Club.

About the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers
The medal recognizes the exceptional volunteer achievements of Canadians from across the country in a wide range of fields and pays tribute to the dedication and commitment of volunteers. AI and Education in Crisis Contexts

Tuesday, May 13, 2025, 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. EDT
Online only: https://www.brookings.edu/events/ai-and-education-in-crisis-contexts/

Amid ongoing armed conflicts, climate change, forced displacement, and other prolonged crises, nearly a quarter of a billion children—an increase of 35 million over the past three years—are deprived of access to quality education.

As the global community seeks innovative solutions to address these complex challenges, the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) presents a promising opportunity to support the learning needs of children in crisis by expanding access, personalizing instruction, and strengthening educational systems in even the most fragile contexts. Multiple initiatives have sought to use generative AI for good in crisis contexts. AI-powered platforms have the potential to shift how learning happens, including by providing tailored learning experiences and assisting in synthesizing relevant learning materials.

On May 13, the Center for Universal Education will host a panel discussion on emerging strategies for using AI in education in crisis contexts. Moderated by senior fellow and director Rebecca Winthrop, the discussion will feature:

  • Jamie Alexandre: Co-founder and co-executive director of Learning Equality, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting children’s learning in the most marginalized contexts
  • Krista Belen Rivas Gutierrez: global leader in the Tertiary Refugee Student Network, a student led network that aims to increase refugee self-reliance by connecting refugee learners and alumni at the local, national, and global level
  • Mati Amin: Co-founder and CEO of SOLAx, a WhatsApp based online academy where students can access daily, asynchronous class work in three languages.

Viewers can submit questions for speakers via email to events@brookings.edu or on X @BrookingsGlobal using #AIinEducation.
