“Thank you all for making the past year and eight months so educational, empowering, and fun. I’m grateful for all of the knowledge and inspiration that CFUW members from across the country have given me, which I know will serve me well as I continue to grow in my advocacy career. I’m excited to continue to fight for public healthcare and social justice with the Canadian Medical Association, where I’ve accepted a role with their Government Relations team. It has been a privilege to work with all of you, and with the incredible National Office staff and Board of Directors—CFUW will always be close to my heart."

The revised resolutions will be published in a Special Newsletter on May 23, 2025. Clubs are requested to review the revised resolutions, as there may be significant changes that may affect your support at the Policy Session.

You are invited to the May 29th 2pm ET Proposers and Amenders Workshop, where Proposers will explain to Amenders and other Club members why specific amendments were or were not accepted, and will respond to questions and comments. We did it! After a sustained, vocal push from the feminist sector in Canada, the role of Minister of Women and Gender Equality is back in Cabinet. Rechie Valdez, MP for Mississauga—Streetsville, was sworn in as WAGE minister this week. Thank you to all CFUW Clubs and members who joined in the calls for a WAGE Minister.

As an organization CFUW has caring talented members. Even If you ask AI to summarize CFUW, it will say that CFUW is an organization that fosters a culture where members have opportunities to learn, network, and lead. In essence, CFUW is a dynamic organization that empowers its members to develop their talents, contribute to its mission, and build lasting connections.

Call for Delegates: GWI Triennial

GWI continues its Triennial planning from Geneva, as Zambia awaits our arrival, and the members of Graduate Women Lusaka plan our welcome!

CFUW’s International Relations Committee and sub-committee have been planning CFUW’s involvement in the September 11-13, 2025 Triennial by submitting resolutions modified for the global scene, offering  constitutional amendments and suggesting agenda items for the General Assembly where new global policy will be decided. We are pleased today to circulate a CALL FOR VOTING DELEGATES AND OTHER ATTENDEES to come to  the Triennial at Lusaka, Zambia.

Any CFUW member may attend and participate in the Triennial; members of Clubs who support GWI by paying the international dues in their home Club, or in another  GWI-supporting Club, may apply to be voting delegates.

We look forward to hearing from you and seeing you at Lusaka in September!

Grace Hollett
VP International Relations

CFUW Oshawa and District 80th Anniversary Celebration Tea

On Saturday, April 26, our club held a celebration tea in the drawing room of Adelaide House at the YWCA in Oshawa. We greeted nine former members, 27 present members and 7 guests to our celebration.  Thirteen past presidents were in attendance.

Deputy mayor of Oshawa, Bob Chapman, presented the club with a certificate marking our 80th anniversary. Sandra Shaw, the Ontario Council president, drove from Perth to attend our tea and bring greetings to our club. Melissa Cole, the curator of the Oshawa Museum, invited members to visit the exhibit at Lakeview Park.

Members of the committee served tea and coffee wearing gloves to our guests. The three-tier trays had an array of assorted treats. Eleanor Gummer entertained us by singing two beautiful songs by Roger Quilter  Our four banners were on display in the alcove.

A collection of foreign coins and currency was donated to the YWCA’s collection.

By the amount of chatter and visiting between tables, it was evident that everyone was enjoying themselves – renewing friendships and creating new ones.

My deepest gratitude to the organizing committee:
Judy Brooks, Sophia Cal, Karen Dixon, Ruth Follows, Pamela Goss, Donna Henderson, Melanie Kitchen, Barb Lewis, Sheila Smyth, Jone Webster, JoAnne Prout
