August marks Emancipation Month in Ontario, with Emancipation Day recognized August 1st across Canada, which marks the day in 1834 the Slavery Abolition Act came into effect across the British Empire. Over 12 million people of African descent were enslaved throughout the British colonies with 4,185 enslaved people were recorded in Canada between the mid-1700s and 1834.
Following emancipation, African heritage and history continued to be erased through methods of segregation, murder, and systemic marginalization - methods that are still impacting the Black community in Canada today. Canada’s history of slavery and impacts of anti-Black racism that have led to the over-policing and over-surveillance of Black communities, and enormous racial inequities related to housing, education, health and child welfare are often overshadowed by our neighbours to the South.

Application Deadline: August 28th, 2026 (deadline extended)
We encourage all CFUW members who may be interested in joining a National Committee to read the job descriptions for the various committees and submit the Expression of Interest form to the National Office. If current Chairs and Committee members wish to continue, they should indicate that interest by also submitting the Expression of Interest form. This can also be done by a current Committee Chair on behalf of her committee members who wish to continue. Notice that sub-committees are on this list as well. CFUW benefits from the work of all members who dedicate many hours of volunteer commitment, and our organization remains strong because of our volunteers.
All CFUW Committee Chairs and members (and those on sub-committees) serve for a two-year term and are appointed at the beginning of each biennium by the new Board of Directors.

The National Council of Women of Canada has written a letter to the Government of Canada, on protecting Canada's water and protecting health. All concerned individuals are invited to sign and encouraged to share with their communities.

2026 CFUW Adopted Resolutions

CFUW's Adopted Resolutions book is a collection of the Resolutions CFUW members have passed. CFUW Clubs and members can use resolutions as a basis for advocacy and inspiration on work they want to take on. You can find the 2026 Adopted Resolutions book in the CFUW Member's Drive HERE
CFUW's National Advocacy and Policy Specialist is currently working on the 2026 Fall Advocacy Package. If you or your Clubs have taken on projects relating to CFUW's 2025 Resolutions, and would like this work featured in the 2026 Fall Advocacy Package, please email advocacy@cfuw-fcfdu.ca by August 31st.

CFUW National Zoom Accounts
|
As we begin a new biennium, the CFUW National Office is undertaking a general reset and clean-up of our records, accounts, databases, including the Zoom accounts used by members.
As part of this process, we will be cleaning up the national Zoom accounts by deleting existing recordings and minutes and changing account passwords. These updates are part of our regular security practices and will help ensure that our shared accounts remain secure and up to date.
If you have a meeting recording or AI minutes saved on a national Zoom account and have not yet made a copy, please email adminassistant@cfuw-fcfdu.ca by September 15 to request access before the recordings are deleted.
If you have a Zoom meeting scheduled after September 15, there is no need to worry! You will receive the new password as soon as the update is completed. You may need to sign in again, but we hope this will be only a small inconvenience in support of keeping our shared accounts secure.

Moderated by Former Senator, The Honourable Marilou McPhedran, this special webinar will feature acclaimed Zambian novelist Mubanga Kalimamukwento in conversation with representatives from the Stephen Lewis Foundation and CFUW. Together, we will discuss the challenges confronting women and girls in Zambia and the impact of the Young, Happy, Healthy & Safe initiative, CFUW’s 2025–2027 International Service Project.
