Join Graduate Women International (GWI), in collaboration with CFUW North Delta/Surrey, Graduate Women Scotland, and the Paraguay Federation of University Women, for a focused discussion on the role of peatlands in climate mitigation.

Peatlands are among the most effective natural carbon sinks, yet they remain under significant threat from environmental degradation and unsustainable land use. This session will examine why peatland protection is a critical component of global climate action and how civil society, including graduate women’s networks, can contribute to informed advocacy and policy engagement.

The conversation will feature:

  • Eliza Olson, B.Ed (Simon Fraser University), Honorary Doctorate (KPU), CFUW North Delta/Surrey, Peatlands Protection Society
  • Cats Sutherland, Graduate Women Scotland, Past Chair of GWI Policy and Resolutions

Speakers will share insights on peatland ecosystems, current protection efforts, and the broader implications for sustainable development and environmental governance.

This event provides an opportunity to engage with peers across regions and disciplines on a pressing environmental issue with global relevance.

📅 Date: Thursday, April 23 Time: 12:00 EST

📝 Participants are encouraged to come prepared for discussion and exchange.
