Responding to Intimate Partner Violence and Substance Use: Sex-, Gender-, and Equity-Based Approaches

Responding to Intimate Partner Violence and Substance Use: Sex-, Gender-, and Equity-Based Approaches

Tuesday, September 16, 2025 (1:00 PM - 2:30 PM) (EDT)

Description

Intimate partner violence (IPV) and substance use (SU) are often intertwined, shaping both lived experiences and service responses. While these connections are complex and multidirectional, services across Canada still tend to operate independently—leaving critical gaps in support for survivors. In this Special Event, Dr. Lorraine Greaves will explore the importance of integrated approaches that address IPV and SU together, rooted in trauma- and violence-informed care and informed by sex-, gender-, and equity-based analyses (SGBA+). She will also share practical tools for gender-based violence and allied service providers to reduce stigma, support safety, and respond with care.
