Pamela Jordan and John McCannon will discuss the historical context for why Russia is fighting a war of aggression in Ukraine and why maintaining Ukraine's national sovereignty is crucial not only to its own citizens, but also to the future of democracy and global peace and security. They are prepared to answer any questions about the current state of the war and the negotiations to end it.
Pamela Jordan received her B.A. in politics from Mount Holyoke College and M.A. in Russian and East European studies from the University of Michigan. She received her Ph.D. in political science from the University of Toronto. Before working as a university professor, she served as a program assistant at the Kennan Institute for Advanced Russian Studies, the Wilson Center (Smithsonian Institution), in Washington, D.C., and as executive director of the NGO Committee on Disarmament in New York City.
John D. McCannon received his B.A. in history from Yale University and his M.A. and Ph.D. in history from the University of Chicago. He worked as a history professor at Norwich University, Long Island University, the University of Saskatchewan, and Southern New Hampshire University. His areas of expertise include Russian/Soviet history, European history, Arctic/Antarctic history, and military history.
